Texas Workforce Solutions vouchers, step by step
Texas actively funds short-term healthcare training for eligible residents through Workforce Solutions offices and the federal WIOA program. Plenty of people qualify and never apply — because nobody showed them the steps. Here they are, in order, with a checklist you can actually follow.
What this is, in plain English
Workforce Solutions is the local arm of the Texas Workforce Commission. Through programs like WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), they can pay some or all of the training cost for careers on their in-demand occupations lists — and dental assisting is the kind of short, job-ready program these funds exist for. Eligibility depends on your situation (income, employment status, dependents, veteran status and more), and it is decided by their case workers, not by us — so the honest advice is simple: ask them. It costs nothing to find out.
Your step-by-step checklist
Our funding finder narrows down which programs could fit your situation before you ever make a call.
Longview sits in the Workforce Solutions East Texas region. Locate your nearest office through the official Texas Workforce Commission directory at twc.texas.gov.
"I want to train as a dental assistant and I'd like to find out if I'm eligible for WIOA or other training funds." That sentence starts the process — they will tell you exactly what applies to you.
Typically: photo ID, Social Security card, proof of income (pay stubs or benefits letters), and proof of residence. Veterans: bring your DD-214 — separate veteran funding may apply.
Ask your case worker what they need from the school. Then call or text us at (903) 913-6444 — we'll provide program details, costs, and dates directly to your case worker and keep the paperwork moving.
Approvals take time, so aim one cohort ahead. Next starts: August 17 and August 25, then September 14 & 29 — live calendar here. Daytime classes; call for exact hours.

If the voucher doesn't come through
In-Person tuition is $3,000 paid in full or $3,500 on a plan ($500 down, weekly or monthly). The Online program is $397 right now (regularly $997) and transfers in full to In-Person credit. GI Bill and veterans benefits are accepted. The take-home pay tool shows how quickly a working RDA recovers the cost — see the salary page for regional ranges.
The state may pay for your training. Find out this week.
